Favorite Brushes: Powder

For us oily (or combo) people, a good matte setting powder is a must. For dry skin folk, illuminating powder is now a thing (I like using it for a “glow from within” highlight). Whether you prefer loose or pressed, shimmery or matte, banana or translucent, Laura Mercier or Makeup Forever, one thing is for certain, a good powder brush is necessary. Powder brushes come in all sizes (and a few different shapes, all roundish), so it’s really a personal preference. What they should have in common is the feel. A good powder brush is soft and fluffy. A powder brush should be nowhere near as dense as a foundation brush. We’re not looking for coverage here just a dusting of powder.

My favorite powder brush is actually a drugstore option. I love Drew Barrymore’s Flower Ultimate Powder Makeup Brush, which can be found at Walmart for $12.98. It's barrel is a perfect circle (which is my favorite shape for a powder brush), and it's incredibly soft and fluffy. And while I'm a high end princess, I cant deny this amazing quality from the drugstore.
