RIDE OR DIE MAKEUP TAG
Youtube sweetheart and beauty guru Jaclyn Hill, known for her famous "highlight on fleek" as well as her collabs with BECCA Cometics, took to Youtube with a new makeup tag, or as she called it a challenge. It's pretty simple, go through your entire makeup collection and pick your holy grail item every category. It was a little hard to pick just one but it was fun as well. Jaclyn tagged everybody, and I'm tagging all you guys!

I'm going to start in the order you would generally apply makeup I'm an "eyes first" kinda girl but for these purposes lets start with the face...

Face Primer Award goes to ......Yves Saint Laurent Touche Elclat Blur Pimer. $52
Honestly when I bought this is was because it has gold glitter in it and I thought it was pretty (great reason to buy something, I know). I have combo (mostly oily though) skin, and I knew it was intended to give a little glow so I didnt have high hopes. BOY WAS I WRONG! This smooths skin, decreases pore size, and give life to even the mattest of foundations without looking greasy. If you're like me and have craters for pores, this stuff is magic! It's silicone based so it fills those bad boys in and gives you an even, flawless base to work with. It contains corn oil, apricot kernel oil, passiflora oil, and rice bran oil. These oils help to hydrate the skin and we all know that hydrated skin produces less oil.

Foundation Award Goes to... Marc J's Re(marc)able Full Coverage Foundation Concentrate in Shade Cocoa Deep $55

I had a really hard time choosing between this and BECCA's Ultimate Complexion Cover Creme. This foundation has always had mixed reviews and I get why some people dont like it. It's definitely not a universal formula for all skin types, but for me it's beautiful and worth that $55. This foundation is super concentrated. When they say you can cover your whole face with one drop, you can cover your whole face with one drop. It sets VERY matte so I suggest using a more luminous primer underneath to prevent a flat look to the skin. For dry to normal skin, I'd say pass. It will exaggerate fine lines and wrinkles, but I'm 23 with oily skin so this complements my skin without having to give cake face.

Concealer Award goes to... Kat Von D Lock-it Concealer in Shade Deep 38  $25
For the longest time, I had a tough time trying to find a concealer that worked for me. Everything felt way too greasy, and always creased on me no matter what. Then I discovered this gem. This concealer is perfection! When I first found about about it, I was told this was so pigmented, it could cover a tattoo. So naturally I had to test this theory.  AND IT WORKS!. This concealer can cover anything but more importantly than that, it dries dries down to a powder finish! No greasy concealer over here! Only thing is it will crease if you dont set it immdiately. Can't wait to try the new formula!

Setting Powder Award goes to bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo $32

I bought this on a whim, took it home and swatched it, and was disappointed. What I got was a stark white powder and a glitter. I was planning on returning it and then I decided to actually use it on my face, and now I don't know how I've went this long without it. I use the matte side to set my face and undereye area, and the glow side to set my highlight (sometimes I use it in lieu of an actual highlighter for that "glow from within" look). This powder leaves me airbrushed, is completely translucent when applied to even the darkest skin, is travel friendly and lasts forever. I use it everyday and it will probably go bad before i have the chance to use it all.

Contour Product Award goes to Illamasqua Gel Sculpt in Shade Silhouette $30

For contouring I gotta throw some love to our brothers and sisters across the Atlantic, with this UK based brand. When it comes to contouring, it always seems like it's always a cream vs. powder situation, but why is no one talking about gel contouring?! This is one of the most amazing products I've spent my money on. This gel contour stick will give you the most natural contour of your life. This shade is pretty sheer and works on EVERY skin tone because it's bulidable, but the sheerness allows the contour to function as it was meant to, as a shadow. I even wear this on my no makeup days because its so lightweight and natural. I'm running out, time to repurchase

Blush Award Goes to... ITS A TIE: NARS Blush in Shade Goulue $30 and BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush in Shade Dahlia $34
I love both of these blushes so much/ the're the only two I use. NARS Goulue is a beautiful warm pinky red with golden shimmer in it. It's a beautiful color but I do have to build it up a little bit, The end result is gorgeous. This particular shade is a Sephora VIB Rouge exclusive item so unfortunately it's unavailable to non VIB Rouge members, but there are people selling it on Amazon. Becca's Dahlia is also a shimmery blush, but this shade compliments my skin tone like no other and its very long wearing.

The Highlighter Award goes to... Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder in Shade Seduction $44
Ok, I love this highlighter, but can we talk about this packaging for a minute? It's the definition if perfect. But back to the actual product. As a WOC, finding highlighter shades that compliment my skin is a little tough. Every highlighter geared towards dark skinned people is usually golden, which is great. I think gold is very complimentary, but but I also wanted something just as glowy but more natural, and this product is it! It's dark bronze color really gives me that "glow from within" look that I love, and the formula is awesome

Now for the eyes....

Brow Award goes to... Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in Shade 5 $24
This pencil has changed the way I do my brows. This product is easy to use and well, goof proof. It has a unique teardrop shaped tip that allows you to fill in larger areas or draw in hair in the front of your brows. It's pigmented af and creamy. It's can be a draw back though, as creamier brow products tend not to stay put. I recommend a clear brow gel on top of this, although personally, even with it I don't have any problems And I love the Benefit's new packaging, it's gorgeous.

Eyeshadow Primer Award goes to Urban Decay Primer Potion in Shade Minor Sin $20
Tried and true, me and the eyeshadow primer have been rocking together for a very long time. Each shade is great, but this one is my personal fave. I literally have never put on eye makeup without laying this down first. It creates a smooth canvas to work on, allows the colors to perform their best, and helps the shadows to stay put until I'm ready to take them off. The reason I love this shade is because it has a shimmer to it, which adds a little extra something to shimmery shadows but wont compromise the integrity of a matte shadow.

Eyeshadow Palette Award goes to... Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette $42
I mention this palette all the time and use it pretty much everyday. It is my absolute fave. Where do I start? Every single shadow packs a punch with its pigment, blendablility, and buttery feel. This palette can create so many stand alone looks as well as be used with other palettes. It's great for the starter down to the pro. You can tell a lot of thought went into this masterpiece. Great job ABH

Single Eyeshadow Award goes to... MAC Loose Pigment in Shade Rose $22

MAC describes this shade as rose with a copper sparkle, so pretty much red with a orange reflect. I live for this pigment. It's so pretty and bold and I feel like a goddess every time I wear it. If you've ever had an experience with MAC pigments, you know that this little jar will take me a lifetime to get through. And I'm OK with that, you get a lot of product for your money. Some people don't like loose pigments because they can be messy, but I personally love the effect they give, as well as their versatility.

Eyeliner Award goes to... Tarte Tarteist Clay Paint Liner $24

This is another product I bought on a whim that has become my holy grail. I have never used a liner with this consistency before. It's creamy and easy to work with. In fact, It reminds me of the texture  and consistency of an acrylic paint. You squeeze the product up onto this little mixing station on the top of the tube, that is shaped like a painter's palette and you pick product up from there. It's super easy to work with, extremely pigmented, and long wearing. This is my go to liner for everyday looks, but especially for looks involving glitter. This glides over glitter like a dream and you wont be able to see a single fleck of glitter through the liner, It's amazing. Not a huge fan of that brush though. Like it works but its too thick for my purposes. I recommend a firm angled liner brush.

Mascara Award Goes to... Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara $26

Ok, I suck as describing mascaras, but just know this makes me look like I actually have lashes. The brush is a classic mascara brush, and the way they designed it gives you such amazing volume that I'll gladly hand over $30 every. single. time.

The Lash Award goes to... Huda Beauty Faux Minx Lash Collection in Style #12 Farah #23

Everyone stop what you're doing and go get a pair of these lashes. These were my first pair of high end lashes, and from that day on, I've been a loyal Huda Beauty customer. These are gorgeous though and this picture does not do them justice. The are TRIPLE stacked 3D faux mink lashes that have tapered hair to give the appearance of real minx. The are fluffy, long and anyone will look fabulous in them. These are also the easiest pair of lashes to put on I've ever discovered in my life. The lashes hugged my lash line automatically and popped right on. It says you can get 20 uses out of them I've gotten way more uses than that and they're still going strong 10/10 recommend.

The Lipstick Award goes to... Another tie: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in shade 215 Shameless $9 and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Shade Lolita $20

This Revlon lipstick is the only product on this list from the drugstore, but I can't live without it. The formula is amazing. It's ultra hydrating and contains peppermint so it will leave your lips feeling tingly, which I personally like. It's a comfort matte formula, meaning it will never fully dry down and isn't transfer proof in the slightest or long wearing. I can look past those flaws because this color is amazing, super pigmented, and it's relatively inexpensive.
KVD's Lolita, a cult fave, is the first lipstick I've ever tried from this brand. This color is one of those unique colors that somehow looks great on every skin tone, kinda like the traveling pants of lipsticks. On me it's a beautiful pinky nude color. It's a matte formula, so it does fully dry down and is transfer proof. But like with most liquid matte lipsticks, it can be drying. so I recommend using a lip balm underneath.

Last but certainly not least, the Setting Spray Award goes to MAC Prep+ Prime Fix+ $23
What can I really say about this product that hasn't been said before? I mean almost everyone uses it. It's pretty much the prefect product to take down any cakiness in your makeup, as well as to lock your look in place for the day. It's also great for foiling shadows and picking up loose pigments and glitters. Great product
