Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer $24

Tarte released this product as part of their Double Duty Beauty Collection (exclusive to ULTA), and it rapidly became a social media superstar. Major YouTube stars like MannyMua and NikkieTutorials swear by this product. As we all know, products perform differently on everybody so just because a YT star endorses a product they most likely got from PR, doesn't make it fantastic. I have always had the toughest time with my under eye area (everything creases on me, no matter how I set or bake it), so I'm up for any new concealer that's suppose to be revolutionary.

Let's take a look at what Tarte claims...

"Sculpt and highlight as you mask imperfections with this 2-in-1 full coverage concealer. The hydrating, longwearing formula delivers natural, radiant coverage across all skin types so you can instantly brighten and cover acne, dark circles and redness while softening the look of pores and fine lines. Wear it 1-2 shades lighter or darker, and it works as a creamy highlighter or contouring stick with a lightweight, blendable formula and tapered wand applicator ideal for precise strobing and sculpting. Powered by Amazonian clay and conditioning mango seed and shea butters, the nutrient-rich concealer helps promote skin elasticity and illumination with each crease-free application."

Ok so we have...
1. Ability to use it for concealer, or contour/highlighter
2. Longwearing
3. Natural
4. Brightening
5. Full Coverage
6. Lightweight
7. Blendable
8. Crease-Proof

Those are some BIG claims, but also that is everything you should want in a concealer.

Let's discuss that first claim. I agree with that claim somewhat. If you have light to medium skin tones you'll be able to find a shade to conceal, highlight, and contour with. If you happen to be any darker than that, good luck. Which is not surprising for Tarte, they tend to let POC down tremendously when it comes to skin products. Sure Tarte has a contour palette just for darker skintones, but it's limited edition and you can only buy it online, as opposed to the same exact palette for light skin tones which you can find and swatch in any store that sells Tarte products and heres the kicker, ITS PERMANENT! Good job Tarte, not! but lets discuss these shades.
This concealer comes 10 shades from fair to mahogany

For my skin tone the deep shade is very light on me, and the mahogany shade is way too dark and on the warm side. So there is no actual concealer shade for my skin tone, I can only use this product as a crazy light concealer as long as I only use a little bit of it, and the darkest shade is too warm to use for contouring.  If you're darker than me, you're out of luck.

Sorry to be so negative, I don't actually hate this product, I just wish the cosmetic industry would have some respect for POC, it's 2016 things need to change. But enough of that let's explore these other claims.

This concealer is one of the most full-coverage, creamy blendable concealers I've ever used. In short, I love the actual product. It features this a huge doe foot applicator.

"normal" doe foot applicator vs Shape Tape doe foot applicator

This applicator makes it very fast and easy to apply product. This product has pretty decent coverage. I judge concealers' coverage by how well they can cover tattoos. My Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer covers my wrist tattoo completely, but it's not super longwearing or crease-proof

wrist tattoo with shape tape
This is my wrist tattoo with 2 layers of the Shape Tape blended out with my fingers. It almost covered it. Not the best I've ever seen, but not bad at all. Then I applied it to my under eye area without setting it to test out how it stands up to my under eye skin, which loves to crease. It creased very slightly but not much. Then I tried it again, but with a light dusting of my bare minerals pressed powder, and no creasing. It wore all day, was lightweight (no cake face), and was pretty natural looking considering it was a shade or two too light. You get 0.34 oz of product for $24.

I give this product a 9/10. It's FAB!
